Marty Mankamyer became a soccer volunteer in Colorado when her daughters began playing in the 1970s. Since then, her service to sport includes leadership positions with Colorado Youth Soccer, United States Youth Soccer, US Soccer, and United States Olympic Committee.
Marty was Chairman for U.S. Youth Soccer, serving also on the U.S.S.F.'s Executive Committee and US Soccer’s Board of Directors. She was Special Liaison to the United States Women's National Team during the 1991 FIFA Women's World Cup and from 1998-2000.
She sat on the U.S. Olympic Committee's Executive Committee, becoming Vice President-Secretariat and then USOC President, and serving on the U.S. Olympic Foundation's Board of Directors.
For the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Marty's initiative and work led to the International Olympic Committee's introduction of women's soccer as an Olympic sport.
